It might feel like we just got comfortable with our current healthcare budgets, but the IRS is already looking ahead. The official inflation-adjusted limits for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and High-Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) for the 2027 plan year have officially been released.

2027 HSA Contribution Limits
If you utilize an HSA to save pre-tax dollars for medical expenses, you will have a bit more room to grow your healthcare nest egg in 2027.
Self-Only Coverage:The contribution limit is rising to $4,500 (up $100 from 2026).
Family Coverage:The contribution limit is jumping to $9,000 (up $250 from 2026).
Catch-Up Contributions:If you are age 55 or older, you can still contribute an additional $1,000.Note that this amount is fixed by statute and does not increase with inflation.
2027 HDHP Minimum Deductibles
To be eligible to open or contribute to an HSA, your health insurance plan must qualify as an HDHP.For 2027, the minimum deductible thresholds are creeping up slightly:
Self-Only:Minimum deductible of $1,750 (up $50 from 2026).
Family:Minimum deductible of $3,500 (up $100 from 2026).
2027 HDHP Maximum Out-of-Pocket Limits
The IRS also regulates the absolute maximum amount you can be forced to pay out-of-pocket (including deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, but excluding premiums) for covered in-network services during the plan year.
Self-Only:Out-of-pocket maximum cannot exceed $8,700 (up $200 from 2026).
Family:Out-of-pocket maximum cannot exceed $17,400 (up $400 from 2026).
